We all fear death, whether it be the death of our beloved or be the death of our past self. We’re scared of our own mortality and we feel its impact on our lives and decisions. In the traditional sense of the word, it invokes emotions that are inherently sad, depressing, and sometimes evil. But death itself is not bad, it’s Neutral.

When people talk about it, they mix their own feelings and experiences into logic and reasoning. Instead of seeing the bigger picture, they lose sight of the grand scheme of things. Only after being detached from all the memories and emotions, one can clearly see what death really is — In its entirety.

It is a beautiful abstract concept, present cross-culturally, symbolizing the “end” itself and nothing more …

“Everything must die, or else there is no beginning.”

And knowing that there exists an “end” is a blessing in disguise. Not everyone can enjoy the endless journey, although one may think he can. That’s why every religion sells the idea of death with the promise of an afterlife and more. It gives us false hope — something to look forward to — and there is nothing wrong about it. Because not everyone can handle the truth as well, without coming out alive from an existential crisis.

“No tree can grow to heaven unless its roots reach down to hell.” — Carl Jung

So how one must deal with death?

I’m not saying that one must abandon his feelings and live like a freaking robot. The death of someone we loved is always hard. It changes us to the core, irrevocably.

Last year, I lost my grandmother … a tragedy that grew on me. It took me weeks to “recover”, but at last, I found a new perspective. I’ll not depress you with my past trauma, so let’s just jump to the conclusion — After fighting my own demons, I internalized the “inevitability of death” and how “natural” it is. Yours and mine.

But death is more about “moving on” than it is about “clinging on”. — My Granny
